Abutilon

Chinese Bellflower This shrub is prized for its showy bell-shaped flowers. Flowers from Srping to Fall, nearly everblooming in milder climates. The shrubs have an upright habit with arching stems. Full sun to part shade in hotter areas. Zones 8-10
‘Bella Mix’: Compact 14-16 inch plants that flower well even in heat. This is a clean mix of apricot, coral, red, peach, rose, pink, ivory and lemon yellow. >Excellent for garden containers and even indoors.

Achillea

Yarrow: Perennial.  This genus is native to the North American prairie.  It is well suited to hot and dry summers and an excellent choice for cut flower gardens or the middle of the perennial border.  Full sun to partial shade.  Zones 3-10


millefolium 'Cerise Queen': vigorous, mat-forming, dark green leaves, bright magenta-pink w/ white flowers.  Height 24-30"


tomentosum 'Aurea' Wooly Yarrow
: Wooly gray-green leaves, flowers to 3” across of lemon-yellow, early to late summer, to 14” tall, keep this one on the dry side.

Ageratum

Floss Flower, Blue Mink: Great for summer and fall color.  Part shade or full sun on coast, rich, moist soil.
Azure Pearl  Early blooming variety to about 12 inches high, azure blue flowers

Ajania

pacifica  syn. Chrysanthemum pacificum,

Ajuga

repens 'Carpet Bugle': Perennial.  While this plant is chiefly grown for its showy foliage, it does have an interesting flower spike in the spring.  It performs well under all conditions, making it an excellent choice for any garden setting.  Use it as a groundcover or in planters.  Full sun to part shade.  Height 4-6".Zones 3-10.

Alcea

Biennial.  An old-fashioned garden plant, it is always popular for the vertical structure it provides in the back of the garden. It reseeds easily so expect some volunteers!  Full sun. Zones 3-8.

mollis ‘Thriller’: Yellowish flowers over gray green leaves, a good cut flower variety

Alonsoa                       

linearis 'Mask Flower': a wonderful garden plant with coral flowers that are larger and more plentiful with each bloom 18-24” high

Alstroemeria

“Little Eleanor”:A naturally dwarf, golden yellow flowered alstroemaeria, which blooms is late spring. Full sun, do not allow to dry out, feed with a high nitrogen fertilizer. Zones 7-9

Althernanthera  

Joseph’s Coat: Grown for its attractive foliage, use as a ground cover or bedding plant, prefers moist well drained soil, full to part sun. Zone 10

Amaranthus:

zones 8-10
‘Aurora’ a combination of creamy yellow leaves on top with dark green lower leaves, easily grown in dry sunny locations and poor soil for best results.
‘Early Splendor’ bright crimson red on bronze leaves, an improved ‘Molten Fire’, the same cultural habit as ‘Aurora’.

Ammi

majus 'Queen of Africa'
Annual.  Large white umbels cover this plant in summer.  The soft green foliage complements the flowers that resemble delicate lacework.  It is a great fresh cut flower, or it can be dyed to use in dried arrangements.  Full sun.  Height 12"–36” Zones 6-10

Anacyclus

depressus               Mt. Atlas Daisy
Perennial.  This member of the daisy family has beautiful white flowers with yellow disks and a red reverse.  The foliage is very similar to chamomile.  It makes a nice rock garden or border plant.  Full sun in well-drained soil. Height 6-8" Zones 6-10.

Anchusa

capensis 'Blue Angel' Summer Forget-Me-Not: Biennial/Annual, Habit is upright but compact, and is covered with marine blue flowers in early summer. Full sun or light shade in moist soil. Height to 8". Zones 3-8

Angelonia                        

Summer Snapdragon
Tender perennial, extremely heat tolerant. Tiny "butterfly" Snapdragon-like flowers cover this upright plant all summer.  Plant in early summer, and enjoy all season.  Full sun. Height to 2 feet.

cordifolia ‘Crystal’: Prostrate perennial with fleshy heart-shaped leaves with a slightly crystalline appearance.

Aquilegia

Columbine: Perennial.  This genus is excellent for the shady perennial garden.  Their blue-green foliage brightens any corner, and the spurred flowers are a welcome addition to the spring garden.  Best in partial shade.
alpina  Charming rock garden plant with true blue flowers medium-large with short spurs. To 8” tall.

Arenaria

montana Sandwort: Perennial.  White flowers adorn these vigorous, low growing, evergreen plants.  The foliage is an attractive gray-green.  It makes the perfect groundcover.  Full sun to partial sun.  Keep the soil moist.  Height 2-4" Zones 4-9

Armeria

Sea Pink:Perennial.  This genus is evergreen, with grass-like foliage.  There is quite a contrast between the foliage and the narrow flower stems that support the large globular flowers.  Full sun to part shade. Zones 6-1
latifolia (A. pseudoarmeria)  Larger, broad, strap-like leaves.  Flowers range from pink to white. Height 6-10"
maritima“Sea Pinks” smaller tufts of foliage, 10” tall, 12” wide.

Artemesia

Wormwood: Perennial.  This genus is known for silver foliage. They require little maintenance.  All will develop woody stems with age.  All species are drought tolerant once established, so be sure not to over-water. Full sun.
'Powis Castle' This cultivar is a hybrid.  With its finely dissected leaves and gentle mounding habit, this Artemesia is the perfect choice for contrast in the perennial garden.  Height to 3 feet.
schmidtiana nana 'Silver Mound' This is the perfect mid-sized addition for your garden.  It’s lacey foliage forms a perfect "mound" of silver that provides excellent contrast to larger leafed plants. Full sun.  Height 12-15".
stelleriana 'Silver Brocade': Beach Wormwood, This hardy version of Dusty Miller will hold up to the worst site conditions you can imagine.  It is a beautiful selection for costal gardens.  With its large lobed leaves, it offers a rough texture to the perennial border. Full sun. Height 3'
‘Oriental Limelight‘ appealing variegated foliage in lemon yellow and green. Its mounding and self branching habit make it a great companion for many flowering plants. It’s a must-have for patio pots and flower beds from spring until fall.

Asteriscus

With its unusual, flat, disc shaped daisy flower, this plant is an interesting addition to the front of any perennial border.  It forms a stout, shiny green rosette with bright golden-yellow flowers. Full sun.

Astrantia

major: Perennial to 18 inches tall, flowers are from white to soft pink to red and sometimes light green. A good cut flower and dries well. Zones 6-9

Aubrieta

deltoidea: Perennial.This plant makes for a beautiful groundcover. It is covered with tiny blooms for most of the season. Leaves are oblong in shape and somewhat hairy. Part sun to part shade.  Height 4-6" Zones 4-9
